Bioenergy

Bioenergy is by far the quickest, easiest and most cost-efficient way to make energy generation climate friendly.

The bioenergy industry has shown a very significant growth for several years, primarily fuelled by a political will to fight climate change, increasing prices for fossil fuels and energy security concerns. Ekman’s sound financial standing, transparency, reliability and cost-efficiency make us more than just a trader. We are a strategic biomass partner.
A key service that Ekman provides is bridging the geographic gap between supply and demand for biomass, and the different requirements between producers and end-users.
Wood pellets and wood chips are already established bioenergy commodities in several markets. Waste-to-energy is a growing industry, which correlates well with the activities of Ekman’s Recovered Materials Division.

Increasing interest gives market potential

The largest market is the EU. Since demand is larger than supply in the EU, we are seeing an increase in international trade of biomass products. There is significant market potential in North America, where political incentives are being put in place. There are also increasing activities in some Asian countries, and Asia has tremendous potential for bioenergy, both for supply and consumption.

Bioenergy is a major growth area in the Ekman Group, and is a key segment to our future business expansion.
